so, i have switched on my Macbook to using the Flock browser (version 2.0) full time. Flock is a browser built on the Firefox code so most of the Firefox plugins and extensions work — all that i’ve tried anyway. Flock is different in that it’s automatically set up to be the browser for social people. i have it tied to my Flickr account; my Facebook account; my YouTube account; and even my personal blog you’re now reading. in fact, i am using the blog editing tool built into Flock to write this entry. it’s actually pretty full featured. okay, that’s stretching things a bit, but i can format text easily and add images and links, etc. — not quite the blog writing tool that i use most of the time (Ecto), but it’s pretty good in a pinch when i don’t have time to go and log in to my blog.

if you don’t use social networking like sites then i’d probably recommend sticking with Firefox. but if you do, then i’d think that Flock would be an easy switch to make since it’s so similar to Firefox. think it over and try it out.

this is my first official post on my new domain site. I never intended for my blog to be on my atticmooses.com testing server. when i originally made it, i started it on my testing server and then couldn’t figure out how to move it. my knowledge for this kind of database stuff has improved greatly and i finally decided to shift over to seanlancaster.com/blog so here we are and hopefully this move is permanent. i finally bring together all of my online worlds (at least the ones that i control).

the house version of the economic stimulus package included a provision for $1 billion new dollars going to Title II D of NCLB, Enhancing Education Through Technology (EETT). this program currently has about $267 million so this would be an incredibly substantial improvement. a good portion of this new money would go toward competitive grants and another 25% largely focused on staff development. this money could appear by this summer. that being said, the stimulus must still get through congress and much can still happen . . . and then it will most certainly get tweaked in the Department of Education. but seeing this renewed focus on technology in education is promising. and, we should also see the infrastructure put in place to bring broadband to rural areas of the country, which is great news for helping to close the digital divide for schools and students in rural areas.
